Returnable packaging

Packaging designed to come back and be used again, usually within an agreed loop.

Returnable packaging is a system, not just a container. It needs an agreed route back, someone responsible for the empties, a way to clean or inspect them, and space to store them at both ends. When those exist, the same container can absorb its cost over many trips instead of one.
