Conical Steel Drums

Nestable steel drums that stack full and nest empty.

Tapered steel drums designed to nest inside one another when empty, which cuts the space and freight cost of returning or storing empties. Used for decades in juice concentrate, purée and paste applications, and increasingly for viscous chemical products.

1,900 empty drums. Stop paying to move air.

A cylindrical empty drum is mostly empty space, and you pay to store it and to ship it back. Conical drums nest inside one another, so the same pallet, truck and warehouse bay hold several times more empties. Everything below reflects the conical drums we source most often; exact figures depend on the size and configuration you order.

How they are built

  • Body formed from pre-painted steel sheet, assembled after the paint has cured, so the finish does not peel or stick.
  • Galvanized bottom base to keep rust out of the seaming area.
  • Epoxy-phenolic interior coating available for food-contact products.
  • Anti-rust exterior paint; BPA-free paint available on request.
  • Cold-rolled steel sheet to EN10130 and EN10131.

Sizes and closures

  • Working capacity around 220 L (58 gal) or 230 L (60 gal); other heights available.
  • Body dimensions worked out to load efficiently in standard ISO containers.
  • Galvanized steel cover, plastic cover, or cover with two bungs.
  • Zinc-coated versions available where the shipment is regulated.

Handling and logistics

  • Empties arrive shrink-wrapped in bundles on pallets and come off with a forklift, so unloading is quick.
  • Nesting cuts the space empties take in storage and on return freight.
  • Filled drums stack four high for cold storage and long transit.

Reuse and end of life

  • Built to be washed and reused rather than discarded after one trip.
  • Steel is fully recyclable at end of life.
  • New drums avoid the contamination risk that comes with repurposed containers.

Where they are used

Food processing, juice concentrates and purées, chemicals, paints and coatings, lubricants, petrochemical and agrochemical products, pharmaceutical and cosmetic ingredients, and waste collection.

Certifications such as food-contact, ISO or UN ratings belong to the drum and its manufacturer, not to CAQUIN. Tell us the product, the fill temperature and the destination and we will confirm which certified configuration applies and what it costs delivered.
